Rising energy costs demand smarter
insulation choices!
Slidell, LA – November, 2002 – According to
government estimates, homeowner heating and cooling bills increased as much
as 50 percent in some areas of the country last year. The U.S. Department of
Energy estimates the cost of heating and cooling a house accounts for 50 to
70 percent of a homeowner’s utility bills. So, whether it is the chill of
winter or the heat of summer, a well insulated home is one of the keys to
keeping utility bills in check this year. One approach homeowners can
take to make sure their home is properly insulated is to call in a
professional insulation contractor to examine the home’s current insulation
levels and make recommendations on how to improve the home’s energy
efficiency. Adding insulation may well be one of those recommendations. “While adding insulation to
help cut energy costs may seem to be a daunting project, the short-term
investment has great long-term benefits,” said Gary Snyder, Coastal
Insulation of Louisiana. An insulation contractor can
explain in detail what an R-value is, what type of insulation to use, where
and what is best for one’s home. For instance, an R-value is a rating that
indicates the resistance value of the material to heat flow. The higher a
material’s R-value, the greater its insulating power. “What people may not realize
is how much money can be saved by making the decision to re-evaluate their
home’s insulation and how minor changes such as caulking around drafty
windows and doors and replacing worn weather stripping can block the loss of
heat in the winter and cool air in the summer,” said Snyder. Call us at 985.641.8750 for a quote or to
